Deep Purple "Made In Japan", а теперь и Dream Theater "Constant In Motion 2007-2008" была изначальная полная уверенность, что треки будут из разных мест)
"Training places are booked for spring 2010. We're aiming for the same as last time. We had such a good feeling from the trip in Sävi that we'll seclude ourselves for a couple of months in the middle of nowhere. The album will came out either 2010 or 2011."
Ideas are brewing already.
"I came up with a concept before Christmas I've been developing. I'm excited but I won't go into details. I haven't with the band members either. It'll be fun again. And a huge project. If my vision comes true they'll be plenty of things to do", Tuomas laughs while sheading some light on his inspiration.
"It would be nice to try to portray the beauty and melancholy of the world and people. I have a feeling I should let go of inspiration from everyday conflicts and whining."
The achievements of Dark Passion Play the Peter Pan of Finnish Metal doesn't want to prioritize. The content is essential.
"The most comforting thing is that certain things don't matter as long as you can make music that's real and comes from the heart. That's what the popularity of DPP has shown me", Holopainen thinks. "The odds against our success was in many places like 50:1."
The Nightwish-skipper, who has just finished a theme melody canditate for a significant movie project, gives thanks to the open-mindedness and tolerance of people.
"It's a soothing thought that not being calculate can bring someting like this. And now this statue! I'm speechless though this guy is pretty funny looking. It must be a valid award when your speechless and laughing at the same time."
When Nightwish's Dark Passion Play Tour ends in September it will have lasted almost two years. On the rest in February while receiving the Soundi award the band's skipper Tuomas Holopainen told the latest news.
Nightwish begun to record it's sixth studio album under abnormal and heated circumstances. The band has set it's own step marks in a way that the situation, the frills leading to it nor the pirouettes afterward don't have to be repeated in early 2009.
If you haven't been living under a rock, every Finn knows or at least thinks he knows how the singer switch happened and Anette Olzon replaced Tarja Turunen. Delightfully many Finns have also heard the album in question: Dark Passion Play which was released in late September 2007 has sold almost a ataggering 130 000 copies in Finland.
Nightwish's founder, leader, songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is a known romantic and a friend of fantasy, adventure and great stories. But the media, especially the sensation hungry part of it, has turned out to be a ruthless friend to play with. Who once opens the Pandora's box has to deal with the consequences.
When you were preparing the material for Dark Passion Play in Sävi two and a half years ago we talked about the media fuss around Nightwish. "Perhaps in a few years I can ignore this", you hoped then (Soundi 8/06). How is it, can you?
- I think I can. Now I only look that this bill or headline has this thing. Okey. And I move on. No one will remember those things in a couple of weeks. In fact I had a hysterical fit of laughter when I saw the cover of MeNaiset. Someone had came up with a thrilling headline. [Nightwish singer Anette Olzon: "Now I understand Tarja Turunen better"]
Your point of view to the matter may also be different on some airport in Los Angeles heading for a gig. Is you spending so much time away from Finland partly the reason for your grown tolerance?
- Perhaps it's like that. Perspective is indeed different in a different place. This fuss isn't that big anywhere else. Heavy circles are of course small in the world's scale and they know something about it but only in Finland this seems to intrest everyone so to speak.
- At night it's good to go look at the starry sky and think how small we are. It helps.
Nightwish will soon release Made in Hong Kong (and various other places)-package from live songs and a few rarer tracks, Dark Passion Play promovideos and a documentary on the road. Why this kind of gap work?
- The idea came from the German record company. They said that there's too long a gap between the albums and with a Europe tour coming up we need to get the band's name out there with some release. That's the way it's done. And because we didn't have any un-released material we came up with this live-ep. And indeed the documentary clip by Ville Lipiäinen, which I think is really well done and the best thing on this release.
- I actually heard the mixed live songs just yesterday. Tero Kinnunen has been working on them and they sound good. But I didn't bother listen to them for long. It's a little like listening to a not so well played album. This release really isn't close to my heart because I'm not a friend of live albums.
Lipiäinen filmed you on the first show October 2007 and November 2008 in Chile. What is the documentary like?
- It quite straightforwardly deals with certain things that people surely are intrested in and the yellow press has speculated with for the last few months. We tell ourselves what's behind breakdowns and everything. Honest talk about life on the road and things related or caused by touring.
With a breakdown Holopainen refers to the incident in Belo Horizonte November 10th 2008 when a gig was cut short after the sixth song because Olzon couldn't go on singing. The incident spread with a few mobilephone recordings and was discussed, weight and interpreted visibly not only on the band's forum but on the Finnish tabloids.
What happened to Anette in Brazil?
- I believe that the constant pressure of touring for a year and a half erupted in one moment - without a bigger separate factor or singular reason. It was a little smoke machine, stress, illness, time-lag, middle fingers in the front row and a couple of 'Tarja!'-screams.
You told in the summer (Soundi 6-7/08) how Anette had provoked a wil tol fight in Germany's Rock am Ring in difficult circumstances. This was the opposite.
- Yes. My very first thought was that: "Oh. Now it happened." None of us paniced. Then I got scared that maybe Anette was thrown with something. Our monitor mixer soon came next to me when we tried to figure out how to continue. I asked if something physical had happened. He answered: "No. Anette's crying backstage".
- It was inevitable for that to happen. And it happened then and there. But think about how many bands are touring all the time. Who hasn't had something like that? What band hasn't fought or cut their gig short?
Anette has made a personal management deal with Swedish Hagenburg Law, Media & Management-company. Was the solution essential and what caused it?
- If the contract makes her feel more safe then no problem. I have nothing against it. And she had talked about it for months. It was no suprise. But there was a little.. feeling of lack of confidence. You still have to understand that some of us have known eachother for 12 years and the band's relations to their management are very tight. A newbie may have some problems adjusting.
The language barrier doesn't help. Do you try to speak English always when Anette is around?
- No matter how well you speak English some meanings, secrets of the soul and nuances would be hidden. And not everyones skills in English are that good - myself included. (pause) I have to admit that we're really bad at talking English. If a group has ten Finns and one Swede English turns into Finnish after a few drinks at the latest. Unfortenately.
- And as far as I understand the contract doesn't affect the practical things. We'll talk about the everyday things straight to Anette in the future as well. About business, which I want to stay as far as possible, the management offices will talk to eachother. I've interpreted that as the only woman in a large group of men Anette just sought safety from someone who spoke her mother tongue. There's no greater drama in this, eventhough all in all Nightwish is apparently some sort of a drama magnet.
From the outside the situation looks a little worrying. Many thought that is history repeating itself.
- There was a little déjà vu, yeah. But these things are from different planets. No need to worry. The man in question [Anette's manager] is extremely smart and gets along with us well. We have a great trust that this will work.
Have you asked Anette if she realized how big a celebrity the new singer of Nightwish will be in Finland?
- I don't think she did. Before her name was announced, we tried to explain it. She answered with a laugh that she understood coming from a family of musicians. Afterwards we've laughed with Anette how wrong she was. She has said that she couldn't have know what kind of turmoil she'd face. Anette has been close to breaking several times.
Accroding to Nightwish's bulletin from October 2007 Dark Passion Play has sold gold in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Poland, platinum in Switzerland and platinum times four in Finland. Here the first day sale was a whopping 42 000 copies, which was sped up by the sale starting at midnight in a few stores. The sales brought the band four Emma awards.
Wouldn't you want as an ambitious songwriter that the public's attention to Nightwish would focus on the music?
- Isn't it flattering that people are intrested in everything we do? (laughter) I don't take offense to what the yellow press does anymore. But you're right. Of course I'm worried that people forget what this is really about. Nightwish is a rock band with a big heart and nothing more.
- We have partly purposely and partly unintentionally caused this drama that begun three and a half years ago and is straight from a movie or soap opera manuscript. And that appeals to the people writing these articles. Perhaps we've jumped on a hamster wheel we can't get off. At least once a week MTV3's teletext or Viihdeuutiset (Entertaiment news) has some completely insignificant piece if news with either my or the bands name.
- I'm fine with it as long as people remember what it's about. But if people are stuffed with the name Nightwish or get a 'What is it now?'-feeling, you can't control it anymore. And I'm a little worried and bothered by it. I'd definetly feel the same if I was a fan of a band who'd be in the media for the strangest reasons. But I have to say I can't believe that 130 000 people bought the album just out of curiosity to see 'how does the Swede sing'.
Dark Passion Play world tour will have lasted a few weeks short from two years at it's end. Have you learned to rest on the breaks or are 'Tuomas' holidays' like before, working with other bands?
- There was an incident in early January that woke me to realize that I need some rest. I got scared when I noticed behaving in a way that really wasn't like me. I thought it's better to do nothing for a few days. And afterwards I understood the situation resulted from fatigue.
- Now I have three weeks off. I intend to devote that to watching movies and ice swmming. Doing nothing is an underrated virtue. But if I'm offered thing I really can't say no to, I can't say no. Because I wouldn't forgive myself for that later on.
Offers to do different projects haven't probably lessened lately. Is the image of you different on different parts of the world? Are there certain types of proposals from somewhere and other kind from somewhere else?
- Not really and I haven't gotten any offers for example from the States. Mostly the inquiries come from Finland, Sweden, Russia. Mostly it's producing or movie music. And then there's "will you play the keyboards for this one song?"-questions. If I'm intrested and the schedule allows it, why wouldn't I do it? You don't have to feel like a whore eventhought you're in with a lot of things. As my good friend Marco Hietala says "A pro has work to do and the amateurs whine".
- But there isn't a lot of time. At the moment my favourite therapy children are Indica and Kotiteollisuus. They are more than momentary session work and both really important to me. I've been able to give them a large part of my soul. Besides For My Pain isn't buried yet. It's been seven years since the last album but you never know...
Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom has talked about his first side project in that tone. You should make a bet can you round up For My Pain faster than he Sinergy.
- Precisely. That's not a bad idea!
Ну у нас прямо сезон интервью. То затишье, то одно за другим прямо.
На этот раз пришла очередь Марко.
Marco Hietala gave a large interview in the March edition of "Aardschok" a Dutch magazine for rock & metal, it was titled "Nightwish: All or nothing". I will add the scans later tonight for you guys but have already translated the interview (sorry if my English is a little bit odd at time, translating is a much harder business than expected)
Nightwish - Scandinavian tropical years
It was all or nothing in the past years for Nightwish. The fairytale success story seemed to take a nasty turn 4 years ago after the departure, including slamming doors, of their singer Tarja Turunen. It looks like the Finnish band has been saved for now, also because of their new singer Anette Olzon. Bass player and singer Marco Hietala looks positively towards the future but he also admits that the band has had a difficult time. On March the 15th they will play at the Ahoy in Rotterdam.
At the end of the year 2005 everyone who held Nightwish dear held their breath. With the same drive that football clubs chuck out the trainers that do not get along with the team anymore, Tarja Turunen was set out of Nightwish. The remaining members of the band accused their front woman of a lack of loyalty. She apparently was too much involved with her own solo career which had a negative influence on the band. She on her turn let the world know in two press conferences that she found this step and most of all the chosen method "unnaturally cruel".
It seemed that the end was near for this Scandinavian fairytale; a band who conquered the world from a small village to become one of the most successful representatives of Gothic Metal. The band around keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen and singer Turunen built up a large crowd of fans in less than 10 years time, fans who loved to drown in the baroque sounds and mysterious lyrics which you could find on albums such as Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Century Child and Once.
But the story of Nightwish did not come to an end. Whilst Turunen dove into her solo career which resulted in her album My Winter Storm (2007), her former band was looking for a new singer. They found her in 2007 in the person of Anette Olzon. The Swede turned out to be someone who was not known in the metal scene as well as a totally different singer and personality than her predecessor. It showed on the album “Dark Passion Play” that came out in 2007. This difference showed also during the tour that followed. After nearly two years now, it is time to reflect, together with Marco Hietala.
Q: How do you look back on the break-up with Tarja?
A: It was something that could not have been avoided. We were growingly unsatisfied with her not being involved with the band at all. The problem appeared over and over again and became too big in the end. We also could not find any other solution to the problem, something drastic had to happen and in the end we made that move.
Q: Why did you find this problem had no solution?
A: The problem did not lie so much within her personality but with the influence that her husband (the Argentinean business man Marcelo Carbuli) had on her. He had no eyes for the needs of the band as a whole but only for Tarja’s needs. The chemistry within a band is something very delicate but he just did not get it and we were confronted with this so many times. Naturally everyone, except Tarja of course, developed a huge dislike for this guy. Tarja realised this but could not cope with it which I can understand in a way because it was her husband that was in the line of fire all the time. Sooner or later this had to escalate, one way or another.
Q: Have you had any contact with her after the break-up?
A: No. Quite a shame actually, because we have had fantastic years together in which we have accomplished so much. The way things turned out made us more sad than angry, however I do believe that there is not much point to talk about it now. She has her life, we have ours.
Q: In 2007 you introduced a new singer: Anette Olzon. Her debut was the album Dark Passion Play. How did you feel from the moment the album was recorded until the day it came out?
A: I will not lie, my emotions were very extreme. On the one hand I felt very self assured, the CD was good. The choice of Anette turned out to be really good, musically. I was very content with the songs; there was not much to say against them from an artistic point of view. On the other hand I realised that Tarja was a huge part of our success, visually as well as musically. She had so many fans who would not have forgotten her. This made me feel sh*t scared a lot of times ... will it all turn out well?
The public
It all turned out well! The reactions to Dark Passion Play varied from very cautious to very positive. During the first gigs Anette had to get used to standing on stage with the band and she did not always sing clean notes but she grew in her new role. It did not went so smoothly though. On different internet forum the choice of the band was heavily discussed like a wild fire, flames that regularly reached the band at their gigs as well. At the end of last year it all became too much for Olzon. During a gig in Belo Horizonte on the 10th of November the singer left the stage after having sung for about an hour, not to return again. The remainders on stage succeeded in a way to calm the crowd by playing some covers. It surely was not the height of the tour. According to the official statement it was the smoke machine that had caused it.
Q: Wasn't there much more going on?
A: It was, I think, a combination of factors. The year 2008 has been very difficult for us, a tropical year. Few weeks on tour, than a week at home, then again on the road etc. I think that Anette was especially affected by this because it all was relatively new for her. That night the final drop fell for her and she just could not handle it anymore. She was too tired and suffered from homesickness, during the concert the smoke affected her vocal cords and she panicked, thinking she would not be able to produce a single sound. The rest is history. But do not forget: she was back onstage the very next day and finished the rest of the tour as well!
Q: How did people react during the tour?
A: For the biggest part the reactions were very positive, even more than I expected. The most fans gave her and the band a fair chance. Of course I saw some people standing there with their arms crossed, literally saying "show us what you still can do" but I am OK with that. Most of the times we managed to win their hearts within a couple of songs. Sometimes people stuck up their middle fingers during the concert, which really is not the nicest thing to do. I do not get sleepless nights from it though, you cannot please everyone.
Q: Do you still think that Anette has been the correct choice?
A: Absolutely! We never looked for a clone of Tarja and having Anette in the band has not changed the musical essence of the band at all, as a matter of face she added a dimension to it. Tarja is a singer with an approach close to classical singing; she also has this distant, mysterious personality which has contributed to Nightwish’s success. Anette is much more approachable, she is so-to-speak the girl from next door, also vocally she is much more down to earth which offers much more artistic possibilities. And I have to say that the matter of factness that she brought into the band has done us all a lot of good.
Q: So you are looking back content?
A: Sure! The CD sold very well, the reviews were nearly all positive. A huge weight came off my shoulders, it could have gone either way with Nightwish, also in a negative sense, I was very much aware of it. But we are happy that we came out of the pit and climbed upwards.
Q: Impressions from the last year will be shown on the DVD/CD Made in Hong Kong (and in various other places) that will see the light of day beginning of March. What is the story behind this release?
A: We wanted to give an impression of the last year, the tour, the travelling etc. We played in so many exotic places, North and South America, Israel to name a few. We wanted to show this to the world. Some of the recordings have been shot in Hong Kong which explains the title. There are also some shots from behind the scenes. I have been so brave to allow a piece on it where I play a major role in it of which I am not so proud. Let’s just say I was not quite myself when they shot it, I will say no more, everyone should see for themselves.
Q: Can we assume that some alcohol played a role in it as well?
A: (laughs) Yes you can.
Q: Do the recordings come from one concert or several?
A: It is a huge puzzle of just about everything. I have been to the studio with Tuomas recently, some parts of the sound have been remastered, if for instance the singing from Hong Kong was perfect but the bass line was not we used the bass line from South America, that sort of thing. We were able to do that because we have recordings from nearly all shows of the tour. I lost track which part is now from what song but Tuomas set the puzzle in the most perfect way imaginable.
Q: Some fans are astonished about the title (Made in Hong Kong), also because you gave such poetic titles to your previous releases.
A: Ah well, I don’t get sleepless nights from that, the title is meant a little bit ironic. Sometimes it seems that everything around is made in Hong Kong. We wanted to show what status the DVD and CD have because they give a good picture of what the band has been through and where we stand now. It is however no new studio album.
Future
We will have to be patient when it comes to a new Nightwish CD. The band will be going on tour again which will also bring the band to the Netherlands, on the 15th of March at the Ahoy in Rotterdam.
Q: Do you think about a new studio album?
A: Tuomas is slowly but surely working on it. I already showed him some ideas of mine (laughs) and he even found one good enough to be used. It is all very prematurely at the moment, I expect us to go into the studio in the course of this year, but I cannot tell if the album will be out by next year.
Q: Will Anette be involved with more than her voice?
A: We will have to see. The last CD was made before she came into the picture at all and now everything is different, the doors are wide open. Tarja never showed up for rehearsals, she did not find the process of development important. Anette said that she would like to be involved as early as possible, for the composing and arranging of the songs. If that results in great ideas it will of course be more than fine, but we will have to see how it works out, because the only problem I can see is the distance since she lives in Sweden but I am sure we come up with a solution.
Workaholic
When I talked to Marco Hietala he was on a short vacation. That soon turned out to be a different name for being in the rehearsal room for one of his other bands: Tarot. This is a group with a long history: Hietala has been the bassist and singer since the Eighties of this melodic power metal band with whom he has recorded quite an amount of CDs. He is also one of the four (!) singers of the Finnish super group Northern Kings.
Q: What are your plans with Tarot?
A: At the moment we are rehearsing because there are some gigs coming up, we also work on new songs because it is time to bring out a new album. It is just always a matter of time because Nightwish is and will be my priority. I also want to avoid stepping Nightwish on the toes by bringing out a Tarot album at the same time. But the new CD will be there, sooner or later.
Q: And what is the latest with Northern Kings?
A: It is pretty quiet but we do have tour plans. We once toured and it was so much fun but we all have our own bands which makes it nearly a crime to set something up. We will be seen on TV though very soon during a Finnish round of the Eurovision Song Festival. Don’t be alarmed, we are not heading for the first prize! We just come along as guests.
Q: So you are playing in three bands and you fulfill a lot of guest roles. Music must be very important for you, but which aspect you like the most?
A: Actually everything, playing in front of an audience is fantastic, the smell of beer and sweat from an overheated audience makes me have goose bumps, still. The adrenaline that shoots through my body, the feeling to have the audience in the palm of your hand, this never gets boring. But I also like working in the studio, to start from nothing and seeing it grow into something beautiful, bit by bit. But it is a life that has its downsides: the jetlag from travelling, waiting around at airports. I have to be stand-by all the time as well, the phone can ring any moment and I have to be somewhere else. I do not want to complain but I suffer from chronic lack of sleep for a few months now. Taking it slow is no option for me. I have been accused of being a workaholic, this is a correct diagnosis, and I cannot sit still. This has partly to do with my personality; it comes from my love for a life full of music. I used to have a nine-to-five-job, but I used every excuse just to get away from it, I was often ill, weak and nauseous. It was not made for me, which especially showed once I concentrated completely on music. From one day to the next I busted with energy, music simply brings out the best in me. I try to answer to that by giving the best of me to music.
Iltalehti:
Tuomas about Anette's breakdown:
This girl coped surprisingly well
-The tour was over, we got some rest, and now everything is remarkably well, Tuomas from Nightwish chuckles just before touring again.
Nightwish begins the tour in March 11 in London in a good mood, though the last world tour did not have a perfectly happy ending.
- Good tour, but then. 160 concerts and Anette (Olzon) with enormous boots to fill.
She lasted surprisingly well, but in the end it all crumbled in our hands.
-We feared first that it was something physical. Luckily it wasn´t. The tour ended, we got home to get some rest, and now everything is absolutely fine, Tuomas purrs.
The new live album "is not a matter of heart".
Tuomas is not 100% excited about the band´s new live recording. Made in Hong Kong (and various other places)-album getting released was probably accelerated by the fact that the band wanted to release as soon as possible a concert album with the new vocalist Anette Olzon.
The previous live spectacle End Of An Era was published as recently as 2006.
-The reason for this release is our German record label. I'm not very convinced about the whole album myself. But they did believe in Germany that we need to come up with something to release. The package is quite allright, but this album is not a matter of heart to me, Tuomas contemplates.
- Of course, because of this album we now have a live recording with the new vocalist.
"My head explodes with new ideas"
Entirely new Nightwish-material will be expected in couple of years, in the beginning of 2011. Ideas are plenty even to be shared with others.
- I have this feeling that my head is getting exploded with ideas. I have had a couple of productive months here. Couple of songs are somewhat ready and three notebooks are filled with ideas, lyrics and riffs.
Holopainen can hardly wait to be able to concretely attack his new material.
Of it's content he does not want to talk about.
- I'm such a mystic person that I dare not reveal anything.
- And male as I am, I cannot do two things at the same time. So let's deal with the touring first, Nightwish-boss says referring to the tour beginning in March 11.
Surely in the new material good old fantasy, Tolkien and Stephen King, will be present?
- Yes, sure. And as our last album was compiled from very strong emotions - grief, bitterness and anxiety - now it would be nice to find emotions just as strong from the other extreme, the man from Kitee recalls recording the album Dark Passion Play after firing Tarja Turunen.
But just like in the old days also melancholy will be included. Where does it always come from?
- From the fact of being Finnish. Minor is more beautiful than major, winter is more beautiful than summer, Holopainen explains.
"Confusing, but unbelievable"
Nightwish albums' worldwide sales figure is about four million. In Finland, among the hundred best selling albums of all times, there are four from Nightwish.
- Wow! Is it really so? Confusing, but also unbelievable. So there has been continuity. This information really warms my mind.
Last year Nightwish did not release an album, so Tuomas Holopainen is before a very peculiar situation. This year he doesn't have to participate in the Emma gala.
- As we play no part this year, let's flag for Children of Bodom, the owner of more than ten Emma-statues promises.
Nightwish on stage in Finland won't be seen until next summer. The busy band is heading back on the road these days after a well-deserved break. Stara met the head of the band Tuomas Holopainen shortly before their tour continues.
Nightwish's Dark Passion Play tour has lasted for almost one and a half years. The last six months of the tour will start on 11 March in London and ends in September. The last venue is yet to be announced, but according to Tuomas Holopainen the tour ends traditionally in Finland.
Nightwish will be seen in summer in a few national festivals. At present, the confirmed gigs are Sauna Open Air in Tampere (7 June) and Vauhtiajot 24 July in Seinäjoki.
"The pressure was just too hard"
Last autumn tour started to be too much for everybody, both for the band and for the crew. The toughest event in public took place in November in Brazil, where the band had to cut the gig short due to the fact that Anette Olzon was unable to continue singing.
- The pressure was just too hard for Anette. There have been rumours that the cause was a feud in the band or even Anette's experienced abortion. These rumours are not true. Really. The tour was just simply too hard for us all and she finallly reacted like this, Holopainen tells Stara.
- In retrospect, I think we had a too busy tour last year.We have learned a lesson and it's easier for us now to know our limits. Hardly anybody can say that the work is always fun, because we all are only human, and every day can not be a good day.
- Now we have also re-done the tour schedule, so we will have more free time. I believe that's a good solution, because every job must also have a break.
Rehearsals and on the road
At the moment, Nightwish batteries are reloaded and the band recently ended a five-day training session in Helsinki.
- We trained the band to be in full fit for the gigs. There will be some new songs in the set list, and a little practice was needed. We also met Anette for the first time this year and the reunion was really good. She is full of energy and power, so are the rest of us, and it will be great to hit the road again
Holopainen himself will spend now some time in Kitee.
- I'll take a few days relaxing, and then next week back on the road.
On the European tour this spring the warm-up bands are Indica and the Swedish Pain.
- It's easy to tour with them because you know it works. Plus Indica has completed their new English album (yet to be released) so this tour is good for them.
Made In Hong Kong
Nightwish's latest output is Made in Hong Kong (and in various other places) to be released 11 March, the day the band's tour continues. The package includes a cd with live songs and a very interesting documentary on dvd.
- The idea for this came from the record company. They think that the pause between the albums will otherwise be too long. I wasn't that enthusiastic about the idea, but all-in-all it came out quite well. I think it is a package that the fans will like, says Holopainen.
The songwriter also has a number of new ideas.
- I have plenty of material for the new album. I think the stuff is typical Nightwish, but there are new elements as well. We have booked the training local for two months in the spring 2010 and then we will begin the work with the album. I imagine that it will be released in the end of 2010 or early 2011.
