Tarja Turunen and Marcelo Cabuli´s Slavery contract.
The new Nightwish-book reveals, how the husband decides entirely about Turunen´s life and career.
Nightwish-book, that was published yesterday in Kitee, is giving more info about the matters that lead into singer Tarja Turunen´s firing last autumn. As the band said last year, the book written by Marko Ollila and published by Like is putting most blame of Nightwish´s and Tarja´s split on Marcelo Cabuli.
The book was available in Kitee yesterday, today you can find it the rest of Finland.
The most interesting issues are are the informations about the Turunen and Cabuli´s manager contract that was agreed in 2001. According to book that contract actually gave the full power of ruling Tarja´s career to Cabuli. The contract that Tarja signed effected to the whole band, because it didn´t concern only Tarja´s solo career, but also everything Turunen did with Nightwish.
An "active journalist in music business" that was interviewed nameless, tells this in the book:
There is a contract made between Tarja and Marcelo´s NEMS Enterprises-company, that mentions that Tarja is not allowed to sign any contracts alone, because any contract without NEMS´s or Cabuli´s signature is not accomplished. This is not a crime, but this isn´t responding Finland´s view of justice, because that person (Tarja) is full powered person and not for example incapable for juridical act.
The book reveals details, that tell how the contract (on Tarja´s side) is a real slavery contract. Tarja couldn´t get out of Marcelo´s power even she would quit the contract and take a divorce.
There is a notch in Turunen´s contract, that gives Cabuli full rights to rule Tarja´s money issues even ten years after the quitting of the manager contract, which is totally insane. There are two kind of victims of Marcelo´s action, in other hand Tarja and in the other the rest members of Nightwish. The only voluntary victim is Tarja, but her situation is very sad. You see, NEMS is giving paying her salary, but all the royalties and gig charges are going to NEMS´s acount, says a source, that wants to stay nameless.
In the book it says, how Marcelo Cabuli slowly started to take bigger and more bigger role in band´s actions. According to book, money-grubbing Cabuli wanter all the time more and more bigger gig charges and he turned Tarja to his side as well.
Tuomas Holopainen, the founder of Nightwish that was interviewed by Marko Ollila, didn´t believe that Tarja wanted any bad to band, despite the cold relationships.
I have met Tarja when she was 13-years old, and she has always been very easy to be lead. If someone repeats long enough that Paris is the capital of Finland, she believes it. That´s why Marcelo has so tight grasp of her. And falling in love does amazing things in human. The truth is, that Marcelo is splitting this band, Tuomas told before Tarja was fired.
There are only few Tarja´s comments about Marcelo in the book. Mostly talking parts are the members of Nightwish and Marko Ollila, that works in Spinefarm. Their blaming glance is looking at Tarja and Marcelo.
Guitarrist Emppu Vuorinen is the only one, that says that he understands also Tarja´s and Marcelo´s point of view. Emppu cricizes Nightwish´s managment company King Foo and brags that sometimes Marcelo did some thing better.
I had this feeling that the most important to our managment was that we would get abroad and to party. It doesn´t matter so much how the things in practise were done. Cabuli has been a good thing, that he has checked the contracts trough that there would be no loop-holes. Even some contracts, that King Foo had already agreed. He have made percentages more high than King Foo. I think that Cabuli is more a business man. If he would have done all the things alone, some things would be better an some things worse, Emppu deliberated.
Firing of Turunen was a hard desicion, but it feels that band is happy with it, despite it would mean that Nightwish wouldn´t be popular anymore.
If we would have continued like before, we all would just have been pissed off. It´s better sell less and be happy than sell two million records, do those 20 bad gigs and then swallow the bad feeling for the rest of time, the drummer Jukka Nevalainen compresses band´s feelings.

Tarja: I am extremely disappointed and very angry! I have nothing to say to the band. The claims made in the book seem insane. Before the release of the book I wasn't mulling negative thoughts. I have talked about this a lot with my friends and family members on the phone.
It was revealed that Tarja hasn't actually even seen the book, but was rather commenting yesterday's news stories, with refusing to respond to any specific subject before she has read the book. Tarja will return to Finland in mid-June.
