Olka from Giżycko, Poland:
To Jessica and Estevão.
First: Hi.
Second: How do you get into the Nightwish crew?
Crew/Management:
Jessica: Hello
I got in touch with Christian in 2006 and this summer he asked me if I was interested in doing translations for the web site. Which I obviously was
Estevão: Hi there! =) Well, I was drinking some stuff with great master Ewo and great wise-man Toni in São Paulo, when we started talking about the website. Making the story short, instead of re-releasing my so-extra-delayed fan club page, Ewo talked to Jukka and they asked me if I would like to join the crew and take care of a portuguese version of Nw.com. "Of course I can". I cannot deny anything to these guys.
Vepsä from Vantaa, Suomi:
Ewo, when is it cold enough that you change your shorts to trousers?
Crew/Management:
I wish never. I hate those long trousers, haha !
Eero from Hartola:
Who are the girls shown in the Bye Bye Beautiful video?
Crew/Management:
They are from a Californian modeling agency & were chosen through a stardard
casting. They were all nice & very excited about this job gig.
Tuula from Helsinki:
Why won't you move Helsinki Ice Hall show to Hartwall Arena? Better place for concerts and most likely all the tickets would be sold out in no time.
Crew/Management:
THE DECISION ABOUT A TOUR IN FINLAND WAS MADE A YEAR AGO AND HARTWALL ARENA WASN'T AVAILABLE THAT TIME FOR THIS EXACT DAY. ALSO WE HAD A PLAN TO DO THAT SHOW SOMEWHERE ELSE THAN IN HELSINKI ICE HALL OR HARTWALL ARENA.
Teemu from Tampere:
Can you imagine Nightwish in Eurovision Song Contest?
Crew/Management:
Mikko: Nightwish is not enough gay to ESC.
Tero: NOT REALLY, THEY'VE DONE IT ONCE ALREADY IN QUALIFICATION OF FINLAND BACK IN 2000 (WAS IT 2000?) AND THEY CAME SECOND, SO I BELIEVE THAT WAS ENOUGH FOR THEM. AND ANYWAY, IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD BE A SONG CONTEST NOT A BAND CONTEST. SO, I REALLY DON'T WANNA SEE ALREADY WORLDWIDE FAMOUS ACTS TAKING PART TO EVENTS LIKE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST!
Mel from England:
I heard that some metal bands were having their gigs cancelled at the House of Blues venue in Orlando because the venue is owned by Disney and they didn't approve of the music.
Is this what has happened to your show there too?
Crew/Management:
Yes, exactly. It was solely a Disney decision. The Anaheim and Orlando HOBs are
on Disney property. And Disney company made a decision that they do not allow
heavy metal bands anymore on their property. Sounds sick, but hey, it is
AmeriKKKa !
David from California:
About How long does it take to set up and tear down a show? Can't wait for the show in LA!!!
Crew/Management:
Normally it takes about 2 hours to set up everything and about 1 hours to take it down.
Jake R from Australia:
To Andy, i was just wonderin how many times you have to change the settings/effects of Emppu's guitar throughout a concert? does he only have the same setting the whole time, or does it differ for every single song??
Crew/Management:
Emppu changes all the sounds/effects by himself.
Oeneus from UK:
Considering how much the shows tend to expand after each album and popularity gets stronger etc., are you having to take a lot more staff on the road during this tour than before? If so, who's new?
Crew/Management:
The touring party will be about the same as it was on the last tour, but of course it depends on how big the venue is.
SuperSwede from Sweden:
To Jessica: Is it easy to translate the entire site into Swedish?
Crew/Management:
Well, it isn't that hard, there was just a lot of job & time required when translating almost the entire page in the beginning. The only tricky thing was to understand some of the Finnish that was in the English translation. Like "additional möykkä", now what?
But thanks to my Finnish friend Carina (thanks girl!) the question marks straightened out.
Slovi from IL:
What, in your opinion was the biggest challenge in the maintenance and/or management of the Nightwish's website? ~Have to say you are doing a great job and keep doing it
Crew/Management:
Benedikt: First of all: Thanks a lot! We're doing our best!
There were two events that were quite challenging: The hacker-attack back in 2006 and the unveiling of Anette as the new singer. In my opinion the biggest challenge was the second. The plan we had in mind was destroyed right after "Eva" leaked. In the end we had to order, install, configure and test the additional servers in just one afternoon. Nobody of us had experiences with such high visitor numbers, so we just hoped doing the right thing. Fortunately everything worked quite well in the end.
Joana from Portugal:
Christian: On average, how many Nightmail questions do you forward to the NW/Crew/Management?
Crew/Management:
We have received 27793 questions in 15 months of Nightmail. That makes an average of 1852 questions per month. There is a bit of variation between the band members though, and the crew gets much less mail than the band. We pick between 20 and 30 questions together with Jukka and he then makes sure they get answered.
Sislie from Vantaa:
Has it ever happened that pyros haven't worked as planned? Do you have any "mascot" on tour to guarantee that everything goes well with pyros and lights?
Crew/Management:
Couple of times we have had some little mistakes. Usually they are more human failures than technical. We don't have any mascot but should we try one...
amaranth:
What is the most difficult thing mixing Nightwish and doing a light show for them?
Crew/Management:
Kimmo: Hmmm... To get every little fine details out, to keep it loud and clear, because concerts are always compared to sound of CD. It's really frustrating to fight against bad acoustics or work with broken equipments from 80's.
Matti: Design lighting to match Nightwish music and feelings of songs but keep lighting technically simple enough for touring.
mila rantanen from hartola:
How has it been to tour with the band now?(;
Crew/Management:
IT'S AWESOME! I LOVE THE BAND AND ALL THE GUYS FROM THE CREW! THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST TOUR WITH NIGHTWISH SO FAR!!!
Emilia from Suomi:
What do you do on tour when everything just pisses you off? On tour you probably don't have much privacy...?
Crew/Management:
Mikko: I go to my bed.
Andy: Usually I find some aid from the fridge.
Tero: THIS FAR, I'VE NOT BEEN REALLY PISSED OF, BUT IF I WANNA BE ALONE. I GO TO MY BUNK IN THE CREW-TOURBUS AND DO MY OWN STUFF IN THERE!
Kimmo: I´ll try to go somewhere just alone. If something happens during the show, maybe one (?) drink after the show helps.
About privacy, well, I think that you can find enough time to be alone if you really want.
A fan:
How has the US-tour been?
Crew/Management:
It was a really long tour with fine shows.
After all a very good start for DPP-tour !
darkwalker from latvia:
question for Ulrich Weitz:
What is the hardest in the work with Jukka?
Crew/Management:
I really thought about it but there is no such "hardest thing" working with Jukka. I set up the drums and take care about it, Jukka comes and plays it. Everything runs smooth - a pretty nice job. That's the whole truth.
Amry from California:
Tero
It says on your fact sheet that you are interested in horses. Do you have any? If so what kind, and where do you ride?
Crew/Management:
YES, I LIKE HORSES. I HAVE ONE OF MY OWN AND THEN COUPLE OF BREEDING MARES TOGETHER WITH MY FATHER. I'M INTO TROTTING SO I DON'T RIDE'EM.
Tova :3 from Helsingfors:
To Jessica:
Do you really like FullMetal Alchemist?
Who's your favorite character?
Crew/Management:
Yep
There are many good characters in there but you have to dig Gluttony, and Edward too cause he's so short, if nothing else
And Armstrong is, ahem, somewhat unusual.
Перевод выложу позже (сильно хочется спать), если меня не опередят.
