вообще какбэ то, что делает Марко, называется скриминг. Называлось раньше, по крайней мере. Сейчас уже не знаю. Но он точно НЕ гроулит

Performing in Olavinlinna castle will be the fulfillment of dreams

Performing in Olavinlinna castle will fulfill Nightwish's and especially the band's leader Tuomas Holopainen's long term dream. They have had in their mind for some years that it would be cool to have the band perform in a resembling environment. On August 15. the band's and also the local heavy metal fans' dream will turn into reality when Nightwish will conquest the Olavinlinna castle for a show arranged by Savonlinnan Puhelin Oy telephone company.

- Olavinlinna will be the best possible site for us to perform. Our secret dream has been to find the best stylish surroundings for our theatrical and pompous performance. This will definitely become one of the highlights of this summer, enthuses Tuomas Holopainen.

Other band members agree. Nightwish have not performed at any resembling site before.

- Definitely the Olavinlinna castle in all it's sturdiness will be the most unique stage for us. The whole band expects the upcoming show with the greatest interest. When we have got such a great chance, we all must only hope that we won't screw it, sighs Holopainen.

The stage show will cause some further pondering. Nightwish like to entertain their audiences with special effects and they use pyrotecnics among the other effects. Tuomas feels a little anxious whether the circumstances at Olavinlinna will set limitations to the visual side of the show, because there have never been any resembling show arranged in the castle. The fact that band's bassist Marco Hietala has got somewhat a viking-like outlooks will hardly be enough to satisfy the band's desire for putting up visually amazing show on the famous stage of the Savonlinna opera festival.

Performing at home grounds will add more anxiety

The fact that Tuomas Holopainen, Emppu Vuorinen and Jukka Nevalainen originate from Kitee will add to the gig's characteristics. Performing near home is always a special and nice experience for them.

- Every single gig in Finland feels in the stomach but performing in Kitee, Joensuu or anywhere near home will always add something extra.

- I visit Savonlinna every summer and all I have to say about it are positive and good things. A wonderful summer town. I have visited the Opera Festival twice. The atmosphere has been incredible and the experiences were amazing. But I have publicly confessed that I am not fond of opera music itself, reminds Tuomas.


Nightwish have performed in Savonlinna once before in 1999 during the Oceanborn tour. At the time they toured Finland thoroughly and Savonlinna was also included on the tourlist.

- Since then we ahve mad a few gigs. One could almost say that the circle is closing, becasue it'll be almost exactly ten years from our last performance here in Savonlinna.

Time to rest after this summer

Nightwish have been on the road for almost two years without a longer break. Even when making music is a matter of heart for Tuomas Holopainen, coming back home after a long tour leg is the highlight of the touring. Tuomas and other band members were able to take long Easter holiday between the finished European leg and before the soon-to-start North American tour.
- The feeling of coming home is so strong that it cannot be discribed with words. Actually I should make a song about it. Right now I'm sitting beside a fire and making flame-roasted salmon. The sun shines and the scenery is beautiful. Can't be anything better than this embraces Tuomas via his cellphone.

Tuomas compares being on tour to running a marathon every night. Social stress is high and while the man doesn't consider himself for being too a social person, the job will sometimes get heavy. Home is the place to stay in peace and get relaxed.

- When I sometimes have time for myself I like just be and do nothing. Hiking in Lapland is another healer of the spirit for me. My weekends in summer are reserved for festivals, but on weekdays I have leasure time which I spend by leading the traditional Finnish mökki-life.

The summer festival tour of Nightwish will end at the Harwall Areena in Helsinki. After that all schedules are blank. The plan is that after September everyone could take their time and stay without giving a thought to music if they so wish until Christmas. The members of Nightwis are quite famous for their grand side projects which will definitely fill part of their free time anyway.

- We have travelled so long around the globe that it'll be better to concentrate on spending time with our families. When the break is good, the musician inside make them grab other challenges when there is time. Besides touring I have made a song here and another there, but again we will have at least one project with Kotiteollisuus when we will get our schedules syncronised, reveals Holopaainen.

- At some point we will start preparing a new CD again. I have material so much that I feel like my head would explode anytime explains Tuomas Holopianen enthusiastically and without any doubt the fans are waitng for it with similar enthusiasm already.
